Welcome to the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Public Works Department.

Our department has 33 full-time employees and is responsible for providing a variety of services to the residents of the Colony and information to the general public. Our main function is to administer and manage the construction, operation and maintenance of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony infrastructure, facilities, buildings, landscaped areas, parks, utilities, transit system, roads, fleet services and public spaces to meet existing and future needs of the Tribal Council and community.

 

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for Colony residents through responsive, efficient, and effective delivery of services to all and reflecting a can-do attitude with our customers.

 

The following services are provided to the colony residents:

Drainage maintenance and repairs

Wastewater collection maintenance and repairs

Wastewater treatment

Water production and distribution maintenance

Water treatment

Parking lots maintenance

Refuse collection and disposal

Recycling collection and disposal

Yard waste collection and processing

Graffiti abatement

The Public Works Department consists of the following divisions: Administration, Maintenance & Operations, Disposal, Transit, Fleet Services, Utilities, Facility Services and Road Maintenance.

 

Administration

The Administration Division functions as the department's coordinator and provides leadership to the department as a whole. Administration also serves as the support division for the entire department.

 

Operations & Maintenance

The Operations & Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining all Colony buildings to include remodeling and tenant improvements, custodian services, providing a safe street and walkway network throughout the Colony for vehicular and pedestrian travel, maintaining the public right of way in a way that is aesthetically pleasing, responsible for graffiti operations, weed abatement, drainage infrastructure, parks and landscape d areas in a way which fosters a sense of community pride, and reflects the quality of life and standards expected by our residents

Disposal

The Disposal Division provides specific fee based revenues for services provided through responsive, efficient, and effective delivery of solid waste removal services.

Transit

The Transit Division provides reliable transportation services for community members, residents and guests to seek and maintain employment opportunities, medical services, and human services. In addition, it provides transportation services to the RSIC community to reduce the dependence and costs associated with operating an automobile.

Fleet Services

The Fleet Services Division monitors, maintains and repairs a fleet of 70 vehicles and equipment to provide the organization with safe, reliable vehicles and equipment based on proactive and preventative maintenance and repair programs to provide the highest quality fleet maintenance services at the lowest possible cost.

Utilities

The Utilities Division manages the operation and maintenance of the Colony’s water and waste water services. In addition, it provides many other Public Works related maintenance services to the community.

Facility Services

The Facility Services Division is responsible for supporting the daily business and activities of the RSIC maintained buildings through responsive custodial and maintenance services to ensure a clean, healthy and safe work environment.

Road Maintenance

The Road Maintenance Division provides hazard-free, safe roadways for motorists and obstruction-free access to sidewalks for pedestrians, bicyclists, and the physically challenged through the inspection and maintenance of the Colony’s roadway infrastructure that includes asphalt roadways, sidewalks, catch basins, curb and gutters, parking lots, and undeveloped roadway shoulders.
